“Very disappointing customer service – would not recommend
I bought a car from Kylemore Cars almost two months ago. While I am happy with the car itself, the customer service and overall buying experience were extremely disappointing.
I initially saw the car advertised online with only three photos. As the car was still being imported, I asked for a walk-around video so I could get a better idea of its condition before travelling to view it. I arranged to come down on a Saturday and was told someone would contact me on the Friday to confirm the car was ready. Nobody contacted me, and after trying to get in touch myself, I eventually received a response at around 8:30pm confirming the car was ready.
There was also no clarity around whether the car came with a spare key. Despite asking beforehand, it was only confirmed when I arrived that there was one key. There was no movement on the €22,950 price, despite a replacement key costing approximately €500.
The walk-around video was also disappointing. It mainly consisted of the sales representative talking about the car's Apple CarPlay and did not show the overall condition of the vehicle. When I viewed the car, I found scrapes on the alloys and wear and tear on the interior that had not been shown or mentioned beforehand.
I was also sent documents while travelling to Kylemore and asked to sign them confirming I was happy with the condition of the car before I had even seen it. I refused to sign anything until I had inspected the vehicle myself.
When I raised my concerns about the condition, I was told, "It's a second-hand car, what did you expect?" When I asked if there was any flexibility on the price due to the missing spare key and damaged alloys, I was told that if I didn't buy the car, someone else would.
The sales representative also repeatedly told me that Kylemore was the cheapest place to buy Japanese import cars. I mentioned that I had seen the exact same car elsewhere with lower mileage for €2,000 less, and the response was, "Well, you should've bought that one then."
I ultimately purchased the car, but I was extremely disappointed with how the whole situation was handled.
There were also issues after the purchase. I requested a copy of the Japanese auction sheet on the day I bought the car and was told it would be sent to me. I had to contact Kylemore six weeks later to request it myself. The auction sheet noted wear and tear to the interior, meaning this information was available before the car was even in Kylemore's possession but was not disclosed to me.
Around 3–4 weeks after purchase, I was contacted by a member of the customer service team. I explained everything that had happened and was told that the service I received was very poor and that they would see what they could do. I have heard nothing since.
I also had to email twice and then call the company to get my NCT money refunded.
Overall, while I am happy with the car, the customer service was extremely disappointing from start to finish. When making a significant purchase like this, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect clear communication, transparency about the vehicle's condition and basic courtesy from the sales team.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend Kylemore Cars. What should have been an exciting purchase was ultimately a very disappointing experience.”
